“K M VARGHESE born in valakam near kottarakara moved to Kayamkulam after his marriage to our mariamma miss, as teachers in MSM kayamkulam in the early 60’s . He was Prof and HOD of English . He was a man of great vision and the never ending desire to do something different from his regular job . After his children Mathew and Philip were born he realized that Kayamkulam lacked a good English medium school . This set his mind on fire and he researched about English schools in India . In the course of pursuing his passion he visited many top schools in India like Lawrence , Doon’s School , Loyola , St Thomas. In 1977 he decided to start an ICSE school in Kayamkulam. He shared this idea with many of his relatives and friends but was mocked upon by many saying that his idea is not a feasible one . Late 1977 he decided to takethe plunge and St Johns School was born . Please remember very few people in Kayamkulam knew what an ICSE school was in those days . But he was determined to fulfill his dreams . St Johns was started in rented building on KP Road . In 1980 sir bought this premises and laid the foundation stone for our first building ie the tiled building . A year later he realizing that admissions were exceeding the facilities we had and so he laid the foundation stone for another new building ie this 3 storied building. From then on there was no looking back . The school soared to new heights and became an excellent center for learning in the state . This was the first ICSE school started by an individual in Kerala . Over the years we have moulded the future of many generations who are highly placed all over the globe . Lets take a moment to honor the great man who made everything what we see here today .sir along with Mariamma miss build this temple of learning.He will be remembered for long as a visionary and revolutionary.”
